Liana’s end of year 2020 favourite stories

2020 wasn’t a great year for so many of us and for me was a relief to still be able to enjoy so many great stories from some old favourites but also new to me authors.

Legacy by Nora Roberts

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book and loved it book so much!

It’s Nora’s mark in every great contemporary romance story, full of characters that grow so much while weaving the tides of life from young adult to a few ago until the present day when they found each other and their romance blooms in spades but not without a killer twist.

So many feelings and emotions, so much friendship and family and what each one of them wants from life and their goals and how they can get there.

I , personally enjoyed Adrian’s relationship with her mother and I’m glad that they get as much closure as one can get.

Nora Roberts at its best romance story.

Kingdom of the wicked by Kerry Maniscalco

I don’t read many YA fantasy novels but I’ll constantly try one now and then, especially if I see them suggested by some of my favourite readers around Bookstagram, hence this review and my love for the author’s words because let me tell you something, I’m in love and never seen it coming!

Rome, one of the most fascinating places in the world even from thousands of years ago , with its hidden passages and mysterious habitants, it’s one of my to-visit places yet to tick off from my list, even more now after reading this charmingly written story.

I admired how our heroine is illustrated as a strong inexperienced girl, assertive and loving of her family, how underneath her warrior shield, she is compassionate and her love doesn’t have limits for her sister. Thus, her heart is driven by a revenge mission where twists and turns that kept me on the edge throughout the story won’t stop her from finding the truth. She is willing to make a deal with the devil, and something wicked comes out of it.

If you love enemies to lovers, suspenseful and mystical world build, you need to read this book.

The tower of fools by Andrzej Sapkowski

This book is so addictive in the best way.

I usually read a story in one day, but this one took me almost a week because I didn’t want to rush it and miss any details.

It’s very long as well, almost double as usual but that didn’t discourage me to enjoy the rich characterization of some of the oldest countries in Europe and the mix of part fiction, part real history.

There’s so much to take in here, so many fascinating characters, and the interaction is just so easy to follow and understand nothing like other novels where I need a thesaurus next to me.

The maturity and real-life scenes are vividly illustrated and some topics left me a bit speechless as I didn’t expect to read about them but they exist since the word was built and even if it’s still a taboo matter for so many civilizations, the author made it authentic and part of life in every scene that matter.

I’m so looking forward to the next books in the trilogy and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

It’s so real and atmospheric, full of twists and historical issues that many people will enjoy.

Layla by Colleen Hoover

Ghost Whisperer and Jennifer Love Hewitt here I come.

I loved that series so much and it feels like a lifetime since I was so intrigued and caught up with everything, especially one episode that stayed with me till today. And that exactly epic love story was all the time in my mind while reading this book.

It’s such a heartbreakingly beautiful love story that will be raked about so much and hopefully turned into a movie because it has all the elements for a blockbuster.

While I wasn’t completely comfortable with some of the actions that Gabriel tried to find out what’s really happening or even to help Layla, the story has so many layers of suspense and romance intertwined that it’s hard not to see how his love for her has no limits.

I’m glad that the resolution came from her part and a bit shocked that he kept up with it.

Even you don’t care for the paranormal books, this is a must-read story.

One of us is lying by Karen M.McManus

After seeing this series around so much I thought it’s time to read it and know for myself why it’s so hyped.

I enjoyed it much more than I expected and, although there were many predictable moments for me and the ending is quite satisfying, it did left me wanting more and I’ll definitely read the next books in the series very soon.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

After seeing it all over the places and highly recommended, I thought I’ll give it a try and I must admit that for me it really deserved its praises.

An incredible incident brings people from all backgrounds together and we get a glimpse into each one of their life, very reliable characters and quite on point thoughts at any given time.

I laughed so much, I felt so many emotions and empathy towards each one of them and honestly, I would love to see this book made into a movie because it’s worth it.

The villain by LJ Shen

Kill is the antihero in every possible way but is he really??? You gonna have to take a chance on this great story to find out.

I’m speechless a bit because honestly, I don’t usually like age gap romance but when it comes to older characters and a romance story from a favourite author, I know I’m in for a ride and what a ride this has been!

I love them both, Cillian and Persephone, separately and together, two opposites characters in every possible way that attract each other like magnets. And when they are together everything blooms and catches fire because those unwanted sparks don’t stand a chance in front of their chemistry and lust.

“He was only stingy with what I craved the most. Passion. Emotion. Devotion.”

The therapist by BA Paris

I’ve been a fan of BA Paris books for quite a while now and The therapist is a must read psychological thriller.

Starting a new life with her boyfriend is always exciting and opens up the opportunity to know more and better about the other person. Because it’s a closed community, everyone knows everyone and everything about their life.

Soon after, she founds out that actually there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him and especially what happened previously in the same house and with the previous owner, a therapist.

The dialogue and the side characters are adding more mystery, and each interaction brings more questions and answers and some predictable moments and some very unexpected turns.

It’s gripping and got me engrossed in a story full of layers to unveil so many twists and secrets.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’ve read over 400 books this year and there are so many great stories that I could talk about for days but I’ll leave it at these for now and I’m excited for what 2021 will bring.

Happy reading and don’t forget to stay safe.
